EQUIPMENT AND PRINTING WORKFLOW
I use Canon gear; at present I have a 5D Mark II full-frame digital camera. I use Canon "L" lenses mainly. I nearly always shoot in RAW. As my work is mainly landscapes, I use a tripod most of the time. I have a Gitzo G1325 with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ballhead, and various RRS plates for my camera and lenses.
Although it can be argued that the quality of the photographer is far more important than that of the camera, in printing it's essential to have the right equipment and to use it correctly if you want to produce good quality prints.
I employ a fully colour-managed workflow to make my prints.
I use ProPhoto RGB as my working space in Photoshop CS5.
I use a Macintosh computer.
My image-processing workflow is fully 16-bit.
My Apple Cinema monitor is calibrated monthly.
I print to an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 printer, with original Epson K3 pigment inks, using the ImagePrint RIP and profiles, to achieve (in my opinion) the best possible colour accuracy and tonality in my prints.
I use Harman professional fibre based photo baryta papers. These papers produce beautiful prints. Images printed on these papers have a wonderful depth of tonality. The papers are of course of archival standard and prints made on them using Epson pigment inks should last at least 50 years (see the Wilhelm Research website).
Each print is signed and dated, and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. Prints are numbered and limited to an edition of 10 per print size.
